Wayland, Michigan (April 15, 2025) – The Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that 4 One 2 Cares of Wayland has been selected as this year’s Charity of Choice. 
Each year, the Chamber selects a local charity to spotlight, raising awareness and funds through a variety of events including, but not limited to, the Annual Chamber Business Expo and the Annual Chamber Golf Outing.
The mission of 4 One 2 Cares is to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health through community events and initiatives. One of their most impactful efforts is the recently launched Bear Hug Program, which provides crocheted bears paired with inspirational message cards placed throughout the community. The program also distributes period packs and kindness kits to local schools, reinforcing the message that “It’s OK to not be OK.”
In addition, 4 One 2 Cares supports community members by helping to connect them with mental health services and by covering unexpected funeral expenses resulting from mental health-related losses. The organization also provides clothing and household essentials for individuals and families in need of extra support.
President Nissa Smith founded 4 One 2 Cares in memory of her mother, who tragically lost her life to suicide. Nissa shared her gratitude for being selected as the Chamber’s Charity of Choice, stating:
“I started our nonprofit in memory of my mom, who struggled with her mental health for a long time. Our goal has always been to raise awareness through conversations, support, kindness kits, hot air balloons, and now our Bear Hugs! If we can let just one person know they are not alone and that it’s OK to not be OK, then we have succeeded.”
To be considered for this annual designation, organizations must complete an application detailing their mission, goals, and objectives. The Chamber’s Board of Directors then reviews submissions and votes to select that year’s featured charity.
