WAYLAND CHAMBER ANNOUNCES MR. & MRS. BURRELL STEIN AS GRAND MARSHALS FOR THE 2017 CHAMBER CHRISTMAS PARADE
Wayland, Mich. (November 2, 2017)—The Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces that Mr. & Mrs. Burrell Stein of Wayland have been selected as the Grand Marshals of the 2017 Chamber Christmas Parade.
“The chamber is honored to annually select the Grand Marshals to lead the annual parade started over forty-years ago by this year’s Co-Grand Marshal, Mr. Burrell Stein. Mr. and Mrs. Stein are true pillars in our community and we couldn’t be more excited to have them lead the Christmas Parade,” stated Denise Behm, Chamber Executive Director.
Their journey as Mr. & Mrs. Stein began on June 25, 1955 when they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Salem. That same year, Burrell was drafted in the US Army and served a tour in Germany until 1957. In 1969, Burrell joined the Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce and is still an active member, currently serving as a Chamber Ambassador and working for chamber member Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services.
Mr. Stein opened the Wayland Carpet Store in 1969 which was located on the corner of Pine and Main Streets. He sold it in 1987 when he became the branch manager of United Bank in Wayland. Phyllis worked hard raising their five daughters and four sons. Burrell likes to add that Phyllis raised their nine children and also, one husband, – himself!
In 1984, Burrell and Phyllis moved to Wayland and became active members in the community and at St. Therese Catholic Church. Burrell and Phyllis fell in love with Wayland which led Burrell to run for the Mayor of Wayland, to which he was elected, and served in that position from 2004 until 2008.
It is our sincere honor to have this year’s Grand Marshals as Mr. & Mrs. Burrell Stein. Please look for Mr. & Mrs. Stein leading our Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 2nd at 11:00am in downtown Wayland.
Congratulations! Thank you for all your dedication to the city of Wayland.
Congratulations Burrell & Phyllis, very much deserved. Worked with you for many years at United Bank and had so much fun disigning and building floats with you over the years!
