The Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce awards one scholarship valued at $500 to a graduating, college bound senior. The applications for this scholarship can be obtained through the career advancement counselor at our participating schools.  Our scholarship committee meets in the spring to determine the recipient through specific criteria, completion of the application, and essay.

2017 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT – Emily Staplescholarship_award_ceremony

The Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce has proudly announced 2017 Wayland High School graduate Emily Staple as the recipient of the Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce Inaugural Scholarship valued at $500.

According to Executive Director Denise Behm, during the application review process, “several things stood out with Emily including her extensive volunteer experience, commitment to helping others and the community, as well as her beliefs and work ethic for her future.”Staple plans to complete a degree in supply chain management from Michigan State University.  Staple was presented the award at the Wayland high school senior awards ceremony on May 23.

 The Scholarship Committee looked for a variety of experiences, involvements, volunteering, and short essay answers when deciding whom to select for this scholarship. Emily was selected by a committee consisting of board members; Hope Wassenaar, Kara Vugteveen, Norm Taylor, Jeff Sorenson, Lindsay Beattie and Denise Behm (Chamber Director), along with Wayland Union High School Guidance Counselor, Lisa Gulch, serving as an advisor.
